Cleveland Indians acquire starting pitcher Kevin Slowey from Colorado Rockies – MLB News
The Cleveland Indians have acquired starting pitcher Kevin Slowey from Colorado Rockies on Friday in exchange of potential relief pitcher Zach Putnam.
Slowey, who recently was traded from Minnesota Twins, is facing his second consecutive transfer in two months.
On Slowey’s trade to the Indians, several reporters asked questions from Rockies' general manager Dan O'Dowd. He replied with assurance and said, “It just again falls into that category of (adding) young, power, controllable arms.”
Rockies’ catcher Wilin Rosario also commented on Slowey trade. He did say that it will make it a little difficult for the Rockies roster but he also hoped for a better future with the presence of Zach Putnam, who also possesses some huge throwing talent.
“A lot of good things happened in winter ball. I can't wait for spring training to start," Rosario said. ... Lefty Drew Pomeranz has begun throwing off the mound in his preparation for the season. Asked about the battery of candidates auditioning for rotation spots, he joked, "I like that they are almost all right-handed.”
The Indians, at the moment are also thinking positively to rotate their 40-man roster for a better beginning next season. Last season they lost too many games down the stretch in the regular season. However, if they do achieve the level of rotation they want, the next season will be more competitive.
Cleveland will also gain help from Slowey’s presence in the roster. Slowey, who has vast experience of playing in the Minor League at Triple-A Rochester Red Wings, certainly can boost the current level of the Indians’ competitiveness.
Last season, Slowey played consistently for the Rockies as he went 6.67 ERA with 0-8 win loss record, 34 strikeouts and 1.40 WHIP.
While his career 4.66 ERA with 39-29 win loss record, 395 strike-outs and 1.30 WHIP, is seriously considered competitive among his team-mates.
Experts believe, more often looking at past stats of Slowey that he will be a great winning factor for the Indians starting roster. His throwing abilities are high when compared to other starting pitchers. His presence will certainly bring many good results for the Indians next season.
