Cleveland Indians add Chris Seddon to a minor-league roster – MLB News
The Cleveland Indians have signed veteran pitcher and current free agent Chris Seddon to a Minor League contract in order to bring more stability in their farm system especially for the next Major League Baseball season.
Seddon possesses some great throwing abilities since coming into the Major League. Overall he has played nine professional baseball seasons including two full length MLB seasons.
Seddon’s inclusion in the Indians roster will certainly increase their winning chances while giving them a vital backup in the shape of one of the most talented left handed pitchers in the current league.
Drafted by the Tampa Bay Rays in the fifth round of the 2001 Major League Baseball Draft, Seddon was considered as one of the top prospects in that particular year, who started his career with full energy and impressed many baseball experts.
Seddon’s professional career started with the Rays organisation in 2001 that lasted in 2007 when the Florida Marlins signed him to a Major League deal.
Later he went to Seattle Mariners in 2010 where he spent a whole season with 5.64 ERA and 1.39 WHIP but eventually this relationship ended making him a free agent in 2011.
Sources have said that Seddon’s relationship with the Mariners changed and that was also the main reason why he was not given another contract despite a decent performance.
Recently, the Seattle Mariners' manager Eric Wedge has unfolded indirectly that particular late relationship with Chris Seddon and the Mariners. He also expressed about the Mariners 2010-2011 MLB season.
Wedge said, “Just build the foundation, that’s what we wanted to do. You can’t put a Band-Aid over it. A lot of teams do that. What we have to do here is we have to build a foundation I can count on and the front office can count on and the fans can count on, and most importantly the players can count on. That takes time. It was a tough thing to go through and something I wouldn’t wish on anybody. But in the end, it’s gonna help us.”
In the meanwhile, whatever happened between Seddon and the Mariners, he is now part of Indians' roster and will be looking to focus more on the upcoming season for a consistent performance. Who knows after 2012 where Seddon will be heading, but at-least he should make sure his present team gains the maximum from his performance.
