Cleveland Indians’ add Jeanmar Gomez in starting rotation – MLB News
The Cleveland Indians starting pitcher Jeanmar Gomez has been selected officially in the rotation by the top management on late Saturday night.
Tribe’s general manager Chris Antonetti announced in the media with complete authority that Gomez will be playing at fifth spot as he outpitched everyone in the latest Major League Baseball Spring Training in Arizona and won this spot on his own.
“Jeanmar has been one of the highlights in camp," said Antonetti. "Among the guys who were given a chance to compete for a spot in camp, he did all you could ask. He went out there and was very consistent. Initially, he was a guy who wasn't even getting
starts in some of those early games. He pitched well and continued to earn the additional opportunities. At the end, we felt he made us the best team to start the season. It was more a function of what some of the other guys did.”
Gomez, who is only two year veteran, has showed the Indians top management his capabilities as he can also play alongside with senior players. Antonetti also added that Gomez has amazed everyone in the team with his extraordinary low arm fast throwing skills
shattering many sluggers in their most innings.
Gomez certainly played a vital role in Indians’ most wins in the Cactus League. He was exceptional with the ball and his curving low pitches demolished every opponent he lately faced. Looking at his career stats, which are consistent at 4.58 ERA along with
9-8 win loss record, 65 strikeouts and 1.58 WHIP certainly is wonderful and now placed him in Tribe’s finest Opening Day rotation.
Experts believe that this is a healthy sign for the Indians who badly wanted a good pitcher to be included next season in order to play perfect and with full energy. Last season, the Indians lost two many games from low averaged opponents, but this time
around they do not want any hitch-ups and want to win games. On the other hand, manager Manny Acta also giving hope to the team as they should keep their spirit high and remained optimistic in title race.
