Cleveland Indians catcher Carlos Santana gets contract extension – MLB News
The Cleveland Indians seem like they are in a good mood with their entire rotation and batting lineup as they are giving some kind of confidence to senior players by extending their contracts which also prevails a sense of security in them.
Recently the Indians have extended Asdrubal Cabrera’s contract while news is coming now that the Tribe’s management has also extended their catcher Carlos Santana’s contract giving him a new five-year deal worth total $21 million.
Santana said, “This is my second home. I'd like to spend my whole career here.”
Later general manager Chris Antonetti said of Santana and explained, “In a very short time, we've seen Carlos develop into one of the best offensive catchers in baseball, What has us excited organizationally is not only the offense he provides, but how far he's come defensively and the commitment he's made to be the best catcher he can be.”
He added, “When you combine his offense, and what he provides behind the plate with his defense and leadership potential, it leaves us with a cornerstone player not only for the present, but for the teams to come."
Santana is a good player behind the plate. He is also a good hitter of the ball and always plays upfront and with full energy. His career batting stats are consistent at .244 along with 35 homers, 105 RBIs and .363 OBP. While in this ongoing Major League Baseball season, Santana’s batting average is improving with .250 along with two homers, four RBIs and .400 OBP. His recent extension is a healthy sign for the Indians to get along with all the other players as well who also at some stage will need this type of security to play long with them.
In the meanwhile, the Indians’ manager Manny Acta also thinks that this recent initiative of Tribe’s top management is significant as his team already wanted long term contracted player behind the plate. On the other hand, this is also a good sign for Santana’s career that needed this kind of confidence and more of a security to further play with more self assurance.
