Cleveland Indians catcher Carlos Santana out due to soreness in right back – MLB News
The Cleveland Indians catcher and first baseman Carlos Santana left the game early on Wednesday against the New York Yankees as he felt soreness in his right lower back.
“Carlos had some back tightness,” manager Manny Acta said on his player’s condition. “He tested OK according to our medical staff, but we won’t know until he shows up tomorrow if he can play.”
Santana also said later in the game on his soreness, “It was my last at-bat, One swing, and I felt it on my right side.”
Before the game, Santana looked quite comfortable and spoke to media, “This is the first time all season we’ve lost four in a row, And just about everybody does that. I just want to reassure the team that they’re OK. I just talked individually to some guys.”
After the game, the Indians’ team doctors examined Santana and made sure he will get every possible treatment for his soreness.
At the moment the Indians are not expecting any bad news regarding Santana’s condition, but still his possible return in the next potential games is not certain.
Currently he is playing with .220 hitting average along with five home-runs, 29 RBIs and .337 OBP.
Santana is only a two year veteran in the League, but still in very short period of time, he has earned a great name for his game.
His overall career hitting of .238 along with 38 homers, 130 RBIs and .356 OBP also makes him a true role player.
Indians' management also understands his importance. They know that without their young players, who at the same time are also very hardworking individuals, they cannot win big games.
It makes more sense as Santana, whose Major League experience is not somewhat huge, but still the way he plays and handles pressure behind the plate as potential catcher, is quite exceptional.
The team doctors who have not given a possible verdict on his arrival on the field as fully recovered, but many inside sources are claiming that there is nothing to worry about Santana’s situation as he will be playing soon with full competitiveness.
