Cleveland Indians catcher Carlos Santana recovers from knee injury

The one thing the Cleveland Indians will be pleased to see in the coming days is the return of catcher, Carlos Santana. The player who suffered a terrifying knee injury last season, in a game against the Boston Red Sox, is expected to return soon and participate
in this year’s Major League Baseball (MLB) season.
Manny Acta, manager for the Indians, was a first hand witness to the incident which led to the injury. The skipper didn’t realize the gravity of the situation till he saw the replay videos. Red Sox player, Ryan Kalish, was sliding in on the Indians’ home
plate when he caught Santana’s left knee, which buckled when the catcher rolled on to his back. Santana was left lying on his back in agonizing pain as he held his mitt over his face.
"It happens so quick," Acta said. "Hey, two guys collide. So what? It happens all the time. The video was a little bit more scary."
The player had sustained the injury on 2 August, 2010 at Fenway Park. The player was rushed over to Dr. Rick Parker for surgery. Much to Santana’s surprise, the damage was repaired quickly as he went on to travel to the Dominican Republic to meet his family.
He also took part in a knee surgery rehabilitation program at the Tribe’s player development complex situated in Arizona.
"I'm surprised," he said. "I was here all winter, and the doctor said it's very good, that the knee is very strong. The doctor said he could not believe how strong the knee was right now."
The Tribe’s general manager, Chris Antonetti, is also happy with Santana’s recovery in the recent weeks, as the player is taking active part in spring training.
"It's great to see. He's on track to just have a regular Spring Training. If you had told us that was going to be the outcome that day when he had that collision in Boston, I'm not sure we would've thought that would've been the case. But he's on track to
have a normal spring."
Antonetti went on to say that Santana is an obvious asset to the Indians’ squad. With Santana back in the line-up, the Indians upcoming season has started to look a lot better already.
