Cleveland Indians close to sign outfielder Johnny Damon – MLB News
Several sources are speculating in the media that the Cleveland Indians will be signing former Tampa Bay Rays’ outfielder Johnny Damon. Though this is yet to confirm by any side, but still sources are telling this news is correct as the Tribe’s some top
men have met Damon and his agent.
The 17 year veteran and two-time World Series Champions with the New York Yankees, Damon certainly is a great player. He has a career batting average of .286 along with 231 homers, 1120 RBIs and .353 OBP also makes him a world class player.
Recently he also has mentioned in the media about going to Cleveland which also tells very much as how anxious he is to play for the Indians.
“Cleveland has always been great to me. And I'm looking forward to reuniting with teammates. I had a soccer game tonight and won 13-3 and I was smooth, I feel bad I have to leave them." said Damon.
Damon who has also played for the Kansas City Royals including Oakland Athletics, Boston Red Sox, New York Yankees, Detroit Tigers and Tampa Bay Rays in the past, is a natural gifted defensive player which also suits to the Indians’ playing environment.
The Indians General Manager Chris Antonetti is also anxious to talk about this matter with the media, but due to a vague situation he also does not know much about what both sides are going to do finalising a contract. However, he did state via email to
a sports’ reporter telling, "While we continue to explore opportunities to improve the team, we haven't signed or traded for anyone.''
No one is sure over Damon’s new relationship with the Indians, but this seems certain that in the coming days both sides will be coming into public and announcing their versions. Experts believe that Damon at the moment is a right choice for the Indians
who are still finding ways to strengthen their defense for a bigger task ahead to clinch the title this season as they feel that their starting rotation and batting line-up is balanced and can face any team in this ongoing Major League season.
