Cleveland Indians could sign Jason Bay – MLB Update
Different reports are coming in the media and some are speculating that the Cleveland Indians are taking interest in Jason Bay’s free agency.
The Indians’ management wants to include a good hitter in the franchise and as they see this opportunity, they diverted their attentions towards this motive which will make sure that Bay’s game is needed in the Cleveland side.
Bay, a nine-year Major League Baseball veteran, is a good player and with good fielding abilities, he is making this year’s free agency market more open.
He played this past season with the New York Mets with a .165 hitting average along with eight homers, 20 RBIs and .237 OBP.
Joining the league in 2003, Bay’s first team was San Diego Padres. He later went onto play in the Pittsburgh Pirates, Boston Red Sox before playing for the New York Mets.
His career .269 hitting average along with 211 homers, 734 RBIs and .363 OBP also makes a good player in this year’s free agency market.
Another source is making noise about Jason Bay’s free agency that Boston Red Sox, Pittsburgh Pirates and Baltimore Orioles are also interested to sign him.
“I haven’t even looked at the medicals,” said Dan Duquette, the Baltimore Orioles’ general manager said earlier when reporters asked him about new signings especially Nate McClouth and Lew Ford’s future as well as need for a left fielder.
“It’s too early to consider,” said Jack Zduriencik, the Mariners’ general manager.
“The challenge for us is that because we have got a group of good young outfielders that we feel good about, how much production would we get if we thought he would be more productive?” Neal Huntington, the Pirates’ general manager, said of Bay.
Experts believe that these are still speculations and Bay’s future rests with his own decision. He and his agent are looking ways to sign with a leading team for a long term relationship.
Meanwhile, next few weeks are critical when all the big team will be trying their best to land some of the top free agents in their respective franchises.
