Cleveland Indians crush Baltimore Orioles 7-2 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians crushed the Baltimore Orioles 7-2 in the first game of their four-game regular series encounter on Thursday, June 28 at Oriole Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Indians played combined as they never gave any chance to the Orioles and eventually won the game. Cleveland stretched seven run lead into the seventh and held the advantage towards the end.
Johnny Damon and Asdrubal Cabrera hit three-run homers and proved a winning combination for the Indians.
Damon said, "We haven't been swinging the bats so well, We got three (runs) in the second ... added another run with Choo's homer, and then Cabrera just topped it off for us. It's been a while since we've hit the long ball. The long ball puts runs on the board, and that's what it did today."
"Johnny Damon's three-run homer ... pretty much set the tone for us and gave us some relief from the get-go, It was an early lead, and that Cabrera homer was huge, something that we really needed. Choo, obviously,” Indians’ manager Manny Acta said.
Zach McAllister started well for the Indians and received two runs on seven hits. He also received two earned runs and struck-out six batters as his ERA remained 3.82.
On the other hand, the Wei-Yin Chen proved disastrous for the Orioles. He pitched over six innings and received six runs on six hits. He also gave six earned runs and smashed for two homers as his ERA rose to 3.73.
In the meanwhile, Cleveland, with this win, now stands at second position in the American League Central with 38-38 win loss along with a .500 winning percentage.
Their recent wins have given them a very good chance to move past the Chicago White Sox who are at the moment at top position in the same Division with 42-35 win-loss record and a .545 winning percentage.
The Orioles at the same time are also sitting at second position behind New York Yankees with 42-34 win-loss and a .553 winning percentage.
Though both teams are at quite good position in their respective Leagues, but still in order to compete for the post season qualification, they will be looking to increase their winning percentage to .600.
