Cleveland Indians crush Boston Red Sox 12-3 – MLB News
Cleveland Indians defeated the Boston Red Sox 12-3 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Thursday, May 23, at Fenway Park in Boston.
It was one of the biggest wins for the Indians in 2013 Major League Baseball season’s first half. Indians entire roster remained calm during the game and won with style.
"I tried to keep my emotions inside, I didn't want to be the main focus. You want to let the players play," said Terry Francona, who led the Red Sox to two World Series championships in eight years.
The Indians stretched their lead to twelve in the bottom sixth which was impossible for the Red Sox to cover. Their batters only showed slight offensive play in the third inning in which they scored some three
runs but on the whole, it was Indians all the way who dominated them during the entire game.
“They've got a good team and are in first place for a reason, not by accident," said Boston manager John Farrell, Francona's former pitching coach with the Red Sox.
Indians entire upfront batting lineup played brilliantly and won the game with quite ease. Centre fielder Michael Bourn scored one run on three hits. He came to bat three times and ran for two RBIs on his .464
slugging percentage.
"I think everyone wanted to go out there and get a win, not just for the team but for (Francona) also, He's been great for us this year and he's well liked everywhere he is. It's definitely exciting to get him
a win," McAllister said.
Shortstop Asdrubal Cabrera also performed well on the plate and proved to be a winning factor for the Indians. He batted five times and played his every inning with great composure. He scored two runs and hammered
two hits along with one RBI on his consistent .434 slugging percentage.
Not only just batters, the Indians pitchers also performed wonderfully and gave no chance to the Red Sox’s hitters to play freely.
Zach McAllister pitched five innings and allowed three runs on five hits. He allowed three earned runs but overall his ERA remained consistent with 2.89 that proved one of the winning factors for the Indians
as well.
