Cleveland Indians crush New York Yankees 3-1 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians crushed the New York Yankees 3-1 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, August 25 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
Indians’ entire pitching line-up played well and earned a great victory against the Yankees.
Justin Masterson pitched 6.2 innings and received only one run and seven hits. He retired six batters and maintained his 4.60 ERA with immense precision.
"Outstanding job by Masterson, He continues to be the guy, our go-to guy whenever we're going through tough times, to get us out of it," Indians' manager Manny Acta said of Masterson and overall his team’s joint effort which provided a good victory.
Relief pitcher Vinnie Pestano pitched 1.1 innings and did not allow any run or hit while his ERA also remained consistent at 1.79.
He stood tall against the Yankees' hitters and struck-out one batter as well.
Closer Chris Perez also did well on the mound and tossed one inning and struck-out two on his 3.47 ERA.
"It's been a long month, I've never been through something like this. I was here in 2010 when we were pretty brutal, but we were brutal all year. [You] go from competing, and all of a sudden two weeks later, it's just a freefall. You really can't put your finger on it.” said Indians' closer Chris Perez.
On the other hand, Yankees' starting pitcher Hiroki Kuroda pitched eight innings and allowed all important three runs and four hits. Though he struck-out six but his performance was still not enough for the Yankees to oust the Indians.
On other end, the Yankees' hitters also did not play their natural aggressive game and lost with bitter humiliation.
Only Derek Jeter scored a run for the Yankees while rest of their roster remained scoreless during the entire game which proved disastrous as they suffered a huge 3-1 defeat.
On the other hand, the Indians' hitters were aggressive and proved too good for the Yankees’ pitchers.
Michael Brantley played wonderfully for the Indians as he scored one run and three RBIs on his three at-bats.
