Cleveland Indians crush Oakland Athletics 7-3 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians crushed the Oakland Athletics 7-3 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Monday, May 6 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
“I have no history with the guy at all," Mark Reynolds said. "I was on a mission right there to hit a ball as far as I could. That's kind of payback for hitting me."
The Indians played as one unit and showed the Athletics their true offensive class. They kept the Athletics under pressure throughout the game and eventually rattled them with big offensive prowess.
Their entire roster looked confident in their own home field as they outclassed the Athletics in every department of the game.
“Unbelievable, I was here for the McGwire one, and this one was just as majestic," Indians designated hitter Jason Giambi said of Reynolds' blast.
All the Indians experienced players contributed in their team’s win. The Indians batters and at the same time pitchers allowed no chance to their opponents and won the game with style.
“It flew past encouraging and went right to exciting," Indians manager Terry Francona said before Jimenez faced the A's.
Ubaldo Jimenez started the game for the Indians and allowed only two runs. He allowed four hits only on 5.2 innings’ spell. He struck out eight Athletics talented batters and remained calm on the mound throughout his outing.
“He got some balls up, they had good swings on them and hit them out of the ballpark," A's manager Bob Melvin said.
Later relief pitchers and closer Joe Smith also played well and showed their best game to show resilience early in the regular season.
Relief pitcher Bryan Shaw pitched 1.2 innings and allowed one run on two hits while he struck out one on his 1.23 ERA.
On the other hand, the Athletics were hammered hard by the Indians batters. Starter Jarrod Parker pitched five innings and allowed four runs on seven hits. He was hit hard as his ERA rose to 7.34.
Chris Resop pitched 1.2 innings and allowed three runs and one hit. He also allowed three earned runs and struck out three on his 6.00 ERA.
