Cleveland Indians defeat Boston Red Sox 8-4 – MLB Update
The Boston Red Sox were dealt another blow on Wednesday, April 6 when they lost their fifth match in the row to the Cleveland Indians 8-4 at Progressive Field, Cleveland.
This time it was the Indians that beat the Red Sox. Boston is registering an embarrassing episode in their history which is already marred by their worst start since 1945.
The game started with Mitch Talbot pitching for Cleveland, as he did not allow any of Boston’s batters, Jacoby Ellsbury, Carl Crawford, Dustin Pedroia or Adrian Gonzalez, to open the inning for the Red Sox. Gonzalez did have a hit in his last ball that produced
nothing profitable for the team compared to how Cleveland made their start. Shin-Soo Choo went out hard on Daisuke Matsuzaka, homered to right centre where Michael Brantley scored two home-runs.
The second inning allowed the Red Sox to open their account. Their aggressive inning could be observed, as David Oritz had his predominating presence on the field which allowed Marco Scutaro to do something different. Talbot, who was pitching for Cleveland
was punished by Scutaro. He hit the ball and reached on an infield single to third, Ortiz scored, Drew went to third and Varitek ran to the second. Jacoby Ellsbury followed as he grounded out to first, which was scored by Drew first, Varitek to third and Scutaro
to second.
Cleveland came back with Asdrubal Cabrera in the second inning that singled to left centre where LaPorta scored and Brantley went to second. It was not until the sixth inning when the game was invigorated by none other than Michael Brantley who aggressively
went against Dennys Reyes, pitching for Boston. Asdrubal Cabrera struck the ball hard enough to enable Hannahan and Brantley to score. Cleveland seemed to have ensured their victory after these massive hits.
Boston had Adrian Gonzalez to capitalise on Frank Herrmann’s punishable balls. He homered to right, where Crawford helped the team come back in the game. But it was too late as Matt LaPorta went up against Tim Wakefield’s fast pitching for Boston. That effectively
sealed the victory for Cleveland with impressive 8-4 score.
The clouds of utter disappointment had already gathered to announce the Red Sox failure to live up to their fans’ expectations. The hugely paid team has so far been utterly disappointing not only for the fans, but also for the franchise itself which had
gone an extra mile to buy an extraordinarily expensive team. Replete with stars like Carl Crawford and Adrian Gonzalez, Boston has been curiously unable to make their mark this season. Crawford could only manage to hits with two steals.
The Red Sox will be desperate to improve their performance and get their offence to produce much needed runs for the team. The Indians managed to contain the Red Sox and take an impressive victory.
