Cleveland Indians defeat Chicago White Sox 11-2 – MLB Update
Jeanmar Gomez tossed six strong innings and Asdrubal Cabrera drove in five runs on Thursday, September 22 to help the Cleveland Indians beat the Chicago White Sox 11-2 at Progressive Field.
This win has enabled the Indians to remain second in the American League Central.
Cabrera came down hard on the Chicago White Sox pitchers, especially taking on Philip Humber to hit a three-run homer. Kosuke Fukudome also got involved with his three RBIs while Travis Hafner had the 1,000th single of his career.
Gomez unleashed a flurry of unplayable pitches to render the White Sox hitters completely unable to score. In the six innings that he pitched, with a 3.52 ERA he gave up only two runs and four hits. Corey Kluber tossed the ninth inning, a complete shut-out
to win the game for the team.
The White Sox starter, Philip Humber, proved extremely costly for the team with his six innings spell. The 3.86 ERA included no less than seven runs and eight hits that he gave up coupled with two runs of Addison Reed and that of Josh Kinney whose one inning
each could not stop the Indians.
Back-to-back homers came in the first inning; first by Kosuke Fukudome and then Jason Kipnis. Kosuke Fukudome scored a two-run homer after Juan Pierre of the White Sox had levelled the score in the fifth inning.
With a 4-2 lead in the sixth, Matt LaPorta hit another single to make it 5-2. Asdrubal Cabrera went for a three-run homer in the seventh, while Grady Sizemore singled to right to pile up the score 9-2 by the end of the seventh inning.
Asdrubal Cabrera then had another two-run single in the eighth inning to take up the score to 11-2 for the Cleveland Indians, much to the disappointment of the White Sox pitchers.
As Corey Kluber came to pitch the ninth, he did not allow even a single hit to wrap up the game with 11-2 victory for the Indians, also levelling the four-game series to 2-2. The Indians put in a tremendous performance as they fought hard throughout the
game and got a much needed win over the White Sox.
