Cleveland Indians defeat Chicago White Sox 4-1 – MLB Update
Fausto Carmona remained wonderfully efficient on Wednesday, August 17 to lead Cleveland Indians to a 4-1 win over the Chicago White Sox at U.S. Cellular Field.
Allowing only four hits in his over 8 innings, Carmona strenuously maintained his sway in a competitively fought game.
"As soon as I got up today I didn't think about what happened in the past," Carmona said through an interpreter. "I didn't think about who I was going to face, I just knew I'd go out there and do my job."
His performance was highly satisfactory in the team manager’s view. "I thought Fausto was magnificent," Indians’ manager Manny Acta said. "He had a good power sinker working for him."
Even though Carmona has barely remained impressive throughout the season with his six wins and 12 losses in the 24 games, his Wednesday’s performance was – beyond any shadow of doubt, awesome.
Mark Buehrle pitched the first inning with meticulous precision while Carmona followed by an equally solid inning, not allowing any runs to the Chicago White Sox hitters. However, as Buehrle came in the second, the White Sox were determined to set the ball
rolling.
Jack Hannahan was the first with his single to centre, giving an early 1-0 lead to the White Sox. But the Indians’ Alexei Ramirez was quick to hit a homer to level the score by the end of the second inning to keep the game floating.
Kosuke Fukudome singled to centre to double the lead for the Cleveland Indians as Fausto Carmona continued to pitch his unplayable pitches, maintaining the lead intact for the team.
The seventh inning, in a way, proved to be a game changer as Shin-Soo Choo had a single hit with Asdrubal Cabrera following it, hitting a sacrifice fly hit that gave the Cleveland Indians a comfortable 4-1 lead.
Carmona kept having a dominating presence in the ballpark with his fastballs that came with accuracy and variation. While Buehrle allowed four runs and 12 hits in the 7.1 innings, Carmona barely gave up four hits and allowed a run.
With the performance that Carmona evinced, it was indeed unlikely that the White Sox would have any opportunity to score a victory in the game.
Chris Perez then served as the best closer, saving his 26th game, he got the last two outs to put an end to the White Sox inning and snatch a 4-1 win for the Cleveland Indians.
The Indians put in a tremendous performance as they managed to restrict the White Sox offence and not allow any runs in the crucial innings. Chicago will be looking to improve their efforts in their next match-up.
