Cleveland Indians defeat Chicago White Sox 4-3 – MLB Update
Asdrubal Cabrera hit a leadoff home-run in the fourth inning to help the Cleveland Indians beat the Chicago White Sox 4-3 on Tuesday, September 20 at Progressive Field.
This was the best start for the Indians in the opener of the four-game series.
Asdrubal Cabrera has been lending a helping hand to almost every big win the Cleveland Indians have had this season. "He's had an outstanding season," Indians’ manager Manny Acta said of his switch-hitting shortstop. "He's hit for power and driven in runs.
His numbers have been great."
With the success that came the Cleveland Indians way, Cabrera himself was filled with happiness. "I'm really happy with what I've done, but I haven't thought too much about it," he said. "I think we've had a good season, and it's not over yet."
However, Cabrera seemed to have hurt himself in the back during his at-bat in the eighth inning."It hurt a lot when it happened, but it feels better now," said Cabrera.
Among other things, Cabrera has had his eighth hit here in the last 13 games that he has played for the Cleveland Indians, something that the team manager readily acknowledges as being very helpful for the squad.
As Fausto Carmona pitched the first inning hitless and scoreless, Travis Hafner of the Cleveland Indians had an opportunity against Gavin Floyd to score. Hafner hit a two-run homer to give his team an early lead in the game.
However, the lead did not continue for long as the Chicago White Sox offence sprang into action. Adam Dunn was first to score a one-run double to deep left while Alejandro De Aza singled to right to level the score.
While the score remained tied, both starters attacked the respective team’s offence with more conviction. However, Asdrubal Cabrera hit his homer in the fourth which became the tiebreaking run for the Indians.
Having established the lead, the Cleveland Indians’ offence did not show any complacency and started to look for more opportunities. In the fifth, when Gavin Floyd of the White Sox came on the mound, it was Kosuke Fukudome who homered for the Indians to
take the lead to 4-2.
Alejandro De Aza took a single for the White Sox in the sixth to bring the lead down to 4-3 and make the game a bit tougher for the Indians. But that was not allowed to happen as the Indians’ relief pitchers threw strong innings and Chris Perez proved an
effective closer to wrap up the game with a 4-3 victory.
The Indians put in a brilliant performance as they fought hard throughout the game and earned a much needed win over the White Sox.
