Cleveland Indians defeat Kansas City Royals 7-3 for series sweep - MLB Update
The Cleveland Indians romped to a 7-3 victory in the second game against the League rivals Kansas City Royals at the Kauffman Stadium, Missouri, on Tuesday, May 17 to grab a series sweep.
Michael Brantley drove in a line double off the Royals’ starter Sean O’Sullivan, Alex Cabrera hit a sacrifice fly allowing Brantley to steal third base and Travis Hafner slapped to the deep right side of the field for an RBI triple to take a 3-0 early advantage.
These early three runs provided the team a great boost, commented the Cleveland Indians’ manager Manny Acta.
"We all know how baseball is," said Acta. "The fact we scored three runs right away in the first inning really helped our side. They probably were, `Hey, here it comes again. These guys can't do anything wrong right now.' It was very important to jump ahead
right away."
The Royals’ Matt Treanor touched an RBI single to reduce the lead by one run in the second inning, but after a scoreless third inning Brantley added another RBI to create 4-1 lead in the top of the fourth inning.
Carlos Santana launched the first homer of the game off Sean in the sixth inning increasing the distance in the lead by four runs. Travis Buck then scored an RBI single to centre-field to take a 6-1 lead.
While the batters piled up pressure over the opposition, the Indians’ starter Carlos Carrasco, on the other hand, tossed strong innings to hold the Royals to just two runs over seven innings.
Getting the 3-0 lead in first inning did not make excited, said Carrasco.
"That felt good," he said. "But I put it in my mind the game was 0-0. That made me attacks the hitters. Every inning, I would say, `0-0' and try to do my best. Yesterday I see 19 runs and I am thinking, 'Oh, save some for tomorrow.' But we got seven."
Carlos gave his second run in the sixth inning when Eric Hosmer scored an RBI single to reduce the lead to 2-6. Carrasco finished his five innings, allowing just two hits, two walks and getting five strikeouts to achieve his second win of the season.
Carlos received full back up from the relievers, Rafael Perez, Joe Smith and Tony Sipp. None of these pitchers gave away any run in their short spells.
Asdrubal Cabrera hit a huge 410-feet long one-run homer to increase the lead 7-2. The Royals’ Melky Cabrera scored an RBI in the last inning to cut the lead 3-7, but until now the game has already been decided in favour of the Indians
The Indians’ starter, Sean allowed six runs on eight hits, allowed two walks and made two strike-outs over five innings to bear his third loss of the season.
