Cleveland Indians defeat Kansas City Royals 8-2 – MLB Update
The Cleveland Indians continued their splendid triumphant march on Thursday, April 28 to rout Kansas City Royals 8-2 at Progressive Field, Cleveland.
The Indians are bracing themselves for a majestic winning streak and to make a new record of having remained undefeated in April.
Among the players who were absolutely fantastic for the Indians was Fausto Carmona who pitched seven effective innings, giving up only five hits and two runs. The intimidating starting pitcher subdued the Royals’ offence, instilling a great deal of confidence
in the Indians’ hitters. "This is a lot of fun," Carmona said. "It helps to have my teammates hitting."
Kansas Royals’ surely knew where things went wrong, as not only were they aware of the weaknesses they had, but also the strength that characterised the Cleveland Indians. "We've seen a bunch of them," Royals manager Ned Yost said. "It hasn't been a fun
week -- [hopefully] we can get home and start something."
Cleveland started the game quite fast, as the offence was especially aggressive when Shin-Soo Choo came on the field. He homered to centre to score the first run for the Indians followed by Carlos Santana who homered to right, take the lead 2-0 in the very
first inning.
Carmona was unhittable, as he successfully pitched scoreless innings to maintain the lead. Grady Sizemore made it 3-0 in the third inning when he homered to centre. If that alone was not sufficient, the potentially devastating hits were awaiting Kansas City
ahead in the fourth inning.
A free flow of runs frustrated Kyle Davies, as Cleveland scored five decisive runs in the inning. Shelley Duncan homered to left making it 4-0, as Jack Hannahan went for a two-run double and Asdrubal Cabrera was next with is RBI double. The two doubles,
coupled with already 4-0 lead took it to 8-0, all of which was allowed by Davies.
The Indians had done it by then, as Carmona allowed two runs in the seventh inning, but that was only a faint attempt by Kansas to make a come-back into the lost game. Tony Sipp and Justin German then pitched shut-out innings to restrict the Royals to just
two runs, winning an emphatic 8-2 victory for Cleveland.
The victory was the tenth consecutive win for the Indians at home. "I'm proud of these guys," manager Manny Acta said. "This was a very good series. We did just about everything. We swung the bat very well tonight; hit some balls loud, square."
It will be interesting to see how the Indians carry their winning momentum forward into their next game. The Royals put in a decent performance, but it their defence struggled against the Indian’s powerful offence.
