Cleveland Indians defeat Kansas City Royals 9-4 – MLB Update
Cleveland Indians sparked on their home ground and overpowered Kansas City Royals 9-4 at Progressive Field, Cleveland on Tuesday, April 26.
The game was a coordinated team effort that allowed the Indians to make their mark. Justin Masterson was outstanding with his effective pitching, Jack Hannahan and Shin-Soo Choo did it with bat.
The Indians started the game aggressively with Choo doing the trick, as he grounded into fielder’s choice to second allowing Grady Sizemore to score the first run. Hannahan followed in the third inning with a homer, making it a 2-0 lead for the Indians.
Kansas City levelled the score in the very next inning with Alex Gordon and Billy Butler doing their part.
Cleveland announced their return in the fifth inning with Matt LaPorta’s homer. The lead was 4-2 by the end of fifth inning which was brought to 4-3 by Melky Cabrera of Kansas City. Cabrera homered to right on Masterson’s fastball. Luke Hochevar who was
pitching for Kansas City found himself in deep trouble with the runs flowing from the batting of Cleveland. Hochevar was unable to contain the Indians’ batters.
The Indians pronounced an even more aggressive return in the seventh inning with Choo’s three-run hit. Boosted by this feat, Cleveland had a dominating 7-3 lead by the end of this inning.
"That's the way it's meant to be," Acta said. "We're not hiding the fact that, if we're going to continue this throughout the year, we're going to need everybody contributing."
Tim Collins who replaced Hochevar to pitch was not spared either by the Indians. This time it was Sizemore who charged the pitcher, as he homered to centre, allowing LaPorta to score the decisive 9th run for the Indians and making a clearly unsurpassable
9-3 lead for the team.
Kansas City could not make a come-back in the game owing to unpleasant odds they were faced with. Cleveland’s defence strengthened by the intimidating presence of Masterson and saw their confidence peak when Chris Perez came out to pitch in the 9th
inning.
Masterson won his fifth straight start and was jubilant about it. "It's early, but I like where we're at and I like what we're doing," Masterson said.
He gave up only two hits, allowing Cabrera to score the fourth run for his team. However, that could not stop Cleveland from a decisive 9-4 victory.
