Cleveland Indians defeat Seattle Mariners 7-5 – MLB Update
Shin-Soo Choo had a three-run homer on Tuesday, August 23 to snatch a wonderful 7-5 win for the Cleveland Indians against the Seattle Mariners at Progressive Field.
In the first game of the day, the South Korean Choo rocked the ballpark with his amazing performance.
"As I rounded the bases, a lot of things were going through my mind," said Choo, whose wife gave birth to 7-pound Abigail on Monday. "I thought about my family, my wife, my newborn daughter. I'm not an emotional person, but it was a great feeling."
For Choo, it was a moment to be jubilantly celebrated. "It's like a movie," the South Korean said. "It's the first walk-off homer of my baseball career and one of the biggest. That's the perfect present, right?"
The Seattle Mariner had put an end to their 5-game losing streak in the last game with 3-2 victory, but this time they could not keep the hold on their second game and faltered.
Once Justin Masterson pitched the first inning, not allowing any runs to the Mariners’ hitters, Blake Beavan was taken to task by Kosuke Fukudome who doubled to centre to score the first run for the Indians.
However, Miguel Olivo was quick to single to centre to level the score for the team, throwing an exciting flavour in the game. Both the starters then threw the solid pitches in the third, disallowing the offence to score the tiebreaking run.
Entering into the fourth, Lonnie Chisenhall of the Cleveland Indians singled to centre to make it 2-1 for the team while Ichiro Suzuki of the Mariners were quick to level the score in the very next inning followed by another single coming off Franklin Gutierrez’s
bat.
With a 3-2 lead in the game, Beavan threw a couple of solid innings only to be hit by Matt LaPorta in the sixth that levelled the score once again. Carlos Santana scored a single to right in the seventh to go beyond the Seattle Mariners with a 4-3 lead.
That seemed solid enough lead for the Cleveland Indians to win the game, but as Masterson was allowed to pitch into the ninth, Trayvon Robinson doubled to deep right that brought in two runs for the Mariners, putting them in charge of the game with a 5-4
lead.
While the game saw its ups and downs for the Cleveland Indians where they took the lead and sometimes were under pressure, the ninth inning was a harbinger of success for the team in the first of two games supposed to be played on Tuesday.
Shin-Soo Choo hit a homer in the most crucial ninth inning against Brandon League to win a difficult but fascinating 7-5 victory for the Cleveland Indians.
