Cleveland Indians defeat Toronto Blue Jays, 13-9 – MLB Update
The batters kept the Cleveland Indians alive throughout the game by scoring runs with continuous intervals and gave the Indians a convincing 13-9 victory over the Toronto Blue Jays at Rogers Centre, Toronto on June 1.
The Indians won the three-game series 2-1. They blasted four runs in the first inning and took an initial 4-0 lead. Asdrubal Cabrera doubled to right centre-field and Michael Brantley posted one run. The next three runs of the first inning were taken by
Cabrera, Travis Buck and Carlos Santana on the drive of Grady Sizemore towards centre-field.
Second inning was score-less but the Indians accelerated their lead 12-0 in the third inning by exploding eight runs. Matt LaPorta homered (413 feet) to left centre-field while Buck, Santana, Jack Hannahan, Adam Everett, Brantley, Cabrera and Shin-Soo Choo
each contributed one run to complete an eight-run campaign. The score-board was unmoved until the fourth inning.
The Jays opened their scoring account in the fifth inning by posting three runs to lessen their trail 12-3. Rajai Davis, Eric Thames and Jayson Nix scored three runs jointly for the Jays during the fifth inning. At the top of the sixth inning, the Indians
posted one run while the Jays added three runs to cut-off their deficit 13-6.
Brantley hit a grounder towards first base and LaPorta scored a single run in the sixth inning for the Indians. On the other hand, Davis struck a one-run homer (405 feet) to left-field while J.P. Arencibia and Edwin Encarnacion both posted two runs jointly
to raise the momentum of the Jays.
During the seventh inning, Mike McCoy scored one run on the grounder of Jose Bautista and Corey Patterson got out at second base. The score-board was 13-7 at the end of seventh. The pitchers did not permit runs in the eighth inning. However, the last inning
went in favour of the Jays as they posted two runs and ended up at 13-9.
The Indians’ manager, Manny Acta was amused with the overall performance of his team. Speaking to reporters, he said, “I'm pretty happy with the way the guys bounced back and took two out of three here.”
Kyle Drabek was too expensive for the Jays as he pitched with an ERA of 4.69 and permitted four runs on three hits including four earned runs. He gave three walks on 38 pitches.
