Cleveland Indians defeat the Boston Red Sox 1-0 – MLB Update
The Cleveland Indians on Thursday, April 7 successfully completed their winning streak as they defeated the Boston Red Sox 1-0 at Progressive Field, Cleveland.
The game was a tense match-up filled with both teams anxious to perform and take advantage over their opponent. However, the Indians managed to score the only run in the eighth inning as Darnell McDonald got out at second base to mark the final out for Boston
and a 1-0 victory for Cleveland.
McDonald could not possibly predict that would happen to him. It all occurred when David Ortiz paved the way for a two-out walk in the ninth inning where McDonald had to run for him. But Drew could not clear Adam Everett. It was there and then that McDonald
tried to round the second base, but somehow scrambled which was capitalised by Orlando Cabrera who shattered all the hopes of the Boston to at least level the score and come back in the game.
The starting pitchers of the Indians perhaps put more effort than their rival counterparts to bag this victory. Both Fausto Carmona and Jon Lester executed seven shutout innings, something that caught attention and merited praise. Jonathan Tyler Lester,
on the other hand, gave up three hits and walked three.
The Red Sox could only manage to go for four hits against the well-prepared pitchers of the Indians. This enabled the Indians to win with three hits. The Red Sox, which will now have the advantage of home ground in the upcoming matches, will definitely not
be happy with the performance that has remained below par.
However, in all probability, it was Asdrubal Cabrera who hit and sacrificed to third, where Adam Everett scored, catching the Red Sox off-guard. This twist in the game forced Boston to rely on the most competent heavyweights of the team. However, none of
Boston’s batters that included the names like Adrian Gonzalez, Kevin Youkilis, David Ortiz and J. D. Drew could put to use the opportunity they had in the last inning.
Chris Perez, who was pitching for the Indians in the ninth inning, was someone Ortiz had tried to target. He drew a two-out walk, Gonzalez grounded to second, Youkilis grounded out to short-stop, but McDonald got out in the frenzy to score by attempting
to return to second. That finished the match off with the Cleveland taking the honours.
The Red Sox will now play their last ten matches at home. Having lost their starting six matches there are still hopes for their come-back as the team is comprised of some highly talented players capable of beating any top side in Major League Baseball.
