Cleveland Indians defeated by Cincinnati Reds 5-12 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians lost to Cincinnati Reds 5-12 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Thursday, June 14 at Great American Ball Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
With this win, the Reds also won the series clean sweeping 3-0 and now roaring for a potential post season spot.
The Indians’ from start to end played terribly and never showed any fighting spirit throughout the game. Losing bitterly in the end, the Indians just made five runs whereas the Reds hammered them with back to back 12 runs and eventually won the game in style.
Starter Josh Tomlin played poorly for the Indians and allowed six runs and six earned runs. He was also smashed with 10 hits and two homers which rose his ERA to 5.56.
On the other hand, the Reds starting pitcher Mike Leake played a key role in his side’s win as he allowed only three run and seven hits. He also struck out six and upheld his 5.05 ERA.
"Not the way you wanted to finish a road trip," Indians manager Manny Acta said. "You've got to give them credit. They beat us on both sides of the ball. Their starters pretty much held our offense down, and they out-hit us, too."
Second baseman Brandon Phillips showed his brilliance with the bat as he remained calm on his five at bats in which he made one run, three hits and four important RBIs.
"Deep down, it feels good to beat up on the Tribe," Phillips said. "But they're moving in the right direction. Manny Acta's a good coach -- I mean manager -- and the majority of the guys who are there are new. So, go Tribe."
The overall game was played on high pace but the Reds were more aggressive and eventually won in the end.
Reds, in the meanwhile, are now standing at top position in the National League Central Division. Their current wins against the Indians have given them this top position and to retain this position for little long, they must reach .600 winning percentage
before mid season break.
