Cleveland Indians’ defeated by Detroit Tigers 1-6 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians’ lost to the Detroit Tigers 1-6 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, August 4 at Comerica Park in Michigan.
Indians’ miserable run continued as with this particular defeat they suffered an eighth straight defeat in the second half of the season.
“I've never seen a streak of non-quality starts like this, Even in 2007, when we were rebuilding things in DC and we practically had to have a tryout camp to find four starters, I never remember a streak like this. We need someone to go out there and break this," said manager Manny Acta on his team’s losing streak with bitter disappointment.
With this particular defeat, the Indians also lost the series against the Tigers 2-0 with one game to spare which will be played on Sunday, August 5.
Indians’ pitching prowess showed a gloomy picture ahead of post-season qualification chances.
Both starter and reliever were seen out of colour and hammered with huge hits.
Especially starter Ubaldo Jimenez was hammered with six runs and seven hits along with six earned runs in his 5.1 innings spell.
He was also able to strike-out just four opposing batters on his blistering 5.29 ERA.
Esmil Rogers though did not allow any run but he too was hammered with three hits on his 2.63 ERA.
On the other hand, the Tigers’ overall team played well and earned a great victory for their team. They played combined and as one unit which proved one of the winning factors for the team. Their upfront offence played brilliantly and eventually won the game with ease.
Starter Doug Fister showed enormous control as he pitched nine innings and allowed just one run and four hits.
"I had some emotion running, It was, take a second to kind of regroup kind of calm down, and go back to work. It was a good feeling, It really didn't cross my mind, to tell you the truth, I go out there and just really focus on each pitch." Fister said.
He also allowed one earned run while he struck-out six potential Indians’ batters to oust the Tigers with style.
