Cleveland Indians edge Boston Red Sox 8-3 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians defeated the Boston Red Sox 8-3 in their first game of four-match regular series encounter on Thursday, May 10, at Fenway Park, Boston in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Boston Red Sox starting pitcher Josh Beckett could not hold on to his aggressive style of pitching and in just 2.1 innings he gave seven runs along with seven hits, seven earned runs and just two strike-outs.
His poor outing was also witnessed by the Boston fans, who during his pitching booed extensively and tried to make him realise as how important is for someone to rise to the occasion when his team needed him, instead; not like Beckett, who went to play gold on his off day despite knowing the fact that the next game is very significant for the team.
This is also important to mention here that last week Beckett was playing golf before his official start and which was also highly criticised in the local media.
Regarding booing, Beckett told the media, "I think it was directed at me, Smart fans."
Later the Indians left fielder Johnny Damon said of this booing incident, "You never want to get booed at your home stadium, He's a great pitcher. Had a bad night. He helped bring another championship here, but as we all know that can get lost in time."
Despite Beckett’s poor pitching, the Indians overall game is to be more appreciated here. They certainly outclassed the Red Sox and took away the game in style. They scored enough runs and never allowed the Red Sox to chase them and eventually won in style.
Indians pitcher Derek Lowe also played well and went with good numbers. He seemed confident on the mound and never gave any loop holes to the Red Sox’s hard hitting batting lineup.
"He knows how to pitch with a lead, He had a lot of traffic throughout his outing, but he always seemed to make that pitch when he had to." Cleveland manager Manny Acta said for Lowe.
Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine said on his team’s loss, “It's challenging every night, The guys are doing a great job and I tip my cap to them and the offense.”
In the meanwhile, both these teams will be facing each-other once again on Friday, May 11.
