Cleveland Indians edge Chicago White Sox 4-3 – MLB Recap
Cleveland Indians edged past the Chicago White Sox 4-3 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, October 2 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
"That was huge, We were waiting for the right opportunity to put Hafner in. Peavy's pitch count was up and first base wasn't open," interim manager Sandy Alomar Jr. said.
Right fielder Jason Donald played beautifully and earned a great victory for the Indians. He remained calm on the plate for his two at-bats and scored one run on his two hits along with a homer. He showed a good temperament and maintained his slugging percentage at .289.
"I'm happy to win it, but how about Hafner?, You almost wouldn't expect anything else. Whether it was his last homer here or not, it was so cool," Donald said.
Overall it was well fought victory for the Indians in which every player contributed with great energy.
Along with their talented batter Donald, the Indians' upfront batting line-up showed full offensive plays during the entire game.
From start of the game, they kept the White Sox’s under pressure and did not let them dominate which eventually proved fruitful as they won it in style.
Right fielder Shin-Soo Choo added one run on a single hit along with one RBI. He played offensively and maintained his slugging percentage at .443 on five at-bats.
Indians’ pitchers also played aggressive and did not give any chance to the White Sox’s batters to play them freely.
"It wasn't meant to be, It's fitting, the way my year seems to have gone. We'll see how the next few months play out, This has been a rewarding year as much as it can be. We've had something special here," Peavy said.
They held the White Sox’s upfront hitters with great force and did not allow any extra loop-holes to them as it was enough for the Indians’ to seal the game with powerful offence.
Starter Justin Masterson did all what was required for the Indians to defeat the White Sox as he tossed six innings and received only run and four hits on his persistent 4.93 ERA.
