Cleveland Indians edge Detroit Tigers 3-2 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians edged past the Detroit Tigers 3-2 in the first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Monday, September 3 at Comerica Park in Detroit.
"I was running like heck with my head down so I couldn't really tell, When I looked up, going at the bag, I saw Pestano covering and he made a good play," Alex Avila said on his team’s performance and his own contribution.
Indians’ pitchers played wonderfully and earned a great victory. Starting pitcher Corey Kluber pitched tremendously and proved one of the winning factors for the Indians.
He pitched six innings and allowed only two runs and six hits as ge retired four while his ERA remained consistent at 4.79.
“It's nice to get the first one out of the way, Took a little while -- longer than I would have liked -- but yeah, it's a great feeling," Kluber said.
Relief pitcher Cody Allen pitched one inning and did not allow any run or hit. He remained calm on the mound and struck-out one hitter on his consistent 1.74 ERA.
Closer Vinnie Pestano also did well for the Indians. He remained focused and pitched one inning. He did not allow any run while he received one hit. Striking-out one, he maintained his ERA at 1.99.
"That's one that people think gets monotonous in spring training because you work on that every single day, But it takes repetition to get it done right, Jason Kipnis deserves a lot of credit. That was a tremendous play," Cleveland manager Manny Acta said.
On the other hand, the Tigers pitchers were hammered with great force by the Indians’ aggressive batters.
Starting pitcher Anibal Sanchez pitched six innings and received eight hits and two runs on his 4.50 ERA. He struck-out only two Indians’ batters on his way-ward pitching.
