Cleveland Indians edge Seattle Mariners 6-5 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians edge past the Seattle Mariners 6-5 in the second game of their two-match regular series encounter on Thursday, May 17 at Progressive Field, Cleveland, Ohio in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
With this win, the Indians also took the series 2-0. They won the first game on Wednesday, May 16 with the big margin 9-3.
Catcher Carlos Santana rallied past the Mariners’ offence in 11th and gave his team a superb victory. "I didn't care if I got hurt or not, they were hitting me everywhere, but I feel great. I'm so happy." said Santana.
The game was played at a high pace, but the single run difference proved the key winning factor for the Indians win. “You don't get to closers very often. The guys were pretty confident since we had done it before against him and we could do it again. Everyone in the dugout said, 'Let's get two, we can do it,” said Indians' manager Manny Acta after the game.
Closer Brandon League ruined the game for the Mariners as he allowed two crucial runs and two earned runs in the end giving the Indians full advantage to take the game away in the 11th inning.
Later in the game, League told the reporters about his poor outing. He said, “My control was just absolutely unacceptable today, I was issuing free passes, and when I did get the ball over the plate, it was right down the middle."
Indians from start of the game never looked comfortable, but as the game progressed further, they seemed to be gaining some momentum. Mariners took the early one run lead into third inning while strengthened it the fifth and sixth with two more runs. At that point they were in position to take the away with this pace. However, the Indians bounced back in style in the seventh and eighth innings as they started a great run towards more exciting play. The Indians made two vital runs in the eleventh as well and eventually took the game away 6-5.
In the meanwhile, the Indians now face the Miami Marlins from Friday, May 18 to play the three-match series.
