Cleveland Indians edge Toronto Blue Jays 1-0 – MLB Recap
Cleveland Indians edge past the Toronto Blue Jays 1-0 in the first game of their three-match series on Friday, July 13 at Rogers Centre in Toronto.
The Tribe’s men played tremendously and earned a great victory.
Travis Hafner and Justin Masterson were the main players who proved themselves for the Indians.
Designated hitter Hafner did well on his four at-bats with a single run along with a hit and a RBI.
While Masterson played well on the mound as he tossed seven innings and received just five hits with no run. He struck-out five Blue Jays' batters as his ERA rose to 4.14.
Later in the game, Indians' manager Manny Acta commented on his pitcher and said, “An excellent pitching performance, Masterson was impressive. He established his fastball the whole game, was able to throw it to both sides of the plate. He did a magnificent job. It was good that he got back on the horse again and had a good outing against a good hitting ballclub,"
Masterson also said on his performance, "I don't think I thought about baseball at all, I maybe caught a hair of some of the All-Star festivities, just sit back and kind of do your own thing. I had a nice date night with my wife, ate at a little Italian restaurant. It was cool."
On the other hand, the Blue Jays' starter Ricky Romero despite performing well could not save the game for his team.
He tossed six innings and received only one run and one earned run. He also struck-out six Blue Jays' batters as his ERA remained at 5.03.
First baseman Adam Lind was the only player from the Blue Jays' roster who tried to compete against the Indians’ tough pitchers but he was only able to hit two times on his three at-bats.
Overall the game was played at a low pace but as soon as the Indians took the lead in the second innings, they never gave any chance to their opponents to take control of the game. Instead they kept them under pressure and eventually won it in style.
