Cleveland Indians edge past Detroit Tigers 7-6 – MLB Recap
Cleveland Indians edge past the Detroit Tigers 7-6 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Sunday, September 15 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
"It was a good comeback, There wasn't anything cheap about it. It was a heck of a ballgame. Give them credit. That's the way it goes. Turn the page and move on," Tigers' manager Jim Leyland said of his team’s performance.
Leyland with confidence added, "They were unbelievable bang-bang plays, At this time of year with the importance, you get a little more excited. Obviously, I thought they were out. The umpire saw it differently."
Catcher Carlos Santana stood tall against the Tigers’ offence as he added two RBIs on his five at-bats. Though the Tigers scored early in the game but soon the Indians caught them with intelligence and quickly outclassed their opponents.
Indians’ pitchers also helped their team with balanced throwing. From their starter to reliever, everyone contributed and won in style.
Ubaldo Jimenez started the game for the Indians as he pitched six innings and received three runs and five hits. He struck-out two while his ERA remained consistent at 5.43.
Later relief pitcher Vinnie Pestano also showed his class and did not allow any run. He struck-out one and maintained his ERA at 2.17.
However, the Tigers could not finish the game on a high note. Their pitchers and hitters played under pressure and lost the game with humiliation.
Starter Pick Porcello tossed 4.2 innings and received four runs and eight hits. He struck-out only two Indians’ hitters while his ERA also rose to 4.57.
Relief pitcher Drew Smyly pitched 2.1 innings and received one run and two hits. He struck-out three but still his ERA rose to 4.25.
"I made good pitches, but they hit them, I want to be perfect, but I am not. Now, let's go to Chicago and win," Valverde said.
Closer Jose Valverde received two runs and three hits on his 0.1 inning spell. He could have played much better but Indians batters did not let him settle-down on the mound during his entire spell.
