Cleveland Indians edge past Minnesota Twins 7-6 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians edge past the Minnesota Twins 7-6 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Friday, September 7 at Target Field in Minneapolis.
Indians' pitchers played beautifully and earned a great victory in the end. They never let the Twins take control of the game and eventually won in style.
They also batted beautifully and put in a tremendous performance. It was a team effort which landed a welcome victory to the Indians.
Jeanmar Gomez started the game for the Indians and received three hits and four runs. He struck-out three and maintained his ERA at 5.33.
Relief pitcher David Huff also did well on the mound as he pitched 3.1 innings and struck-out four.
"Honestly, I didn't even know I was going to get in tonight, I had, from what I was told, a 10 percent chance of getting in. And when that phone rang, they called my name," Huff said on his and the team’s performance which rattled the Twins and did not give any chance to bounce back in the game.
"He pretty much saved the day for us, He came in and shut them down and gave us an opportunity to come back and win the ball game," later Indians' skipper Manny Acta said about Huff’s performance which proved one of the winning factors for the Indians.
While rest of the Indians' pitchers also played well and did not let the Twins to take control of the game.
On the other hand, the Twins' pitchers did not perform well and lost in the end with bitter humiliation.
“You get a lead, you have to go attack the strike zone, If he wants to get a win in this league, you have to go attack hitters. If they beat you, make them beat you swinging," said Twins' manager Ron Gardenhire.
Liam Hendriks pitched five innings and received four runs and eight hits. He struck-out two while he received a homer on his 6.20 ERA.
Relief pitcher Tyler Robertson pitched one inning and received two crucial runs. He pitched poorly and was unable to strike-out any batter on his 5.85 ERA.
