Cleveland Indians get sixth-straight win beating San Francisco Giants 7-1 – MLB Update
National League’s Cleveland Indians emerged as the unbeatable club in spring training with their sixth-straight victory taking their winning streak 13-11, as they beat divisional rivals San Francisco Giants 7-1 margin on Thursday, March 24 in their Cactus
League game at Scottsdale Stadium in Arizona.
The Giants have drained their momentum as they lost their fourth straight outing for the first time this spring. Giants’ left-handed starting pitcher Barry Zito, making his fifth start, was entirely different from his previous outings. Barry, who was 2-0
with 2.30 ERA, consumed four runs on seven hits and struck-out five over six innings. He also received a grand slam posted by Chad Huffman in the seventh inning.
Relievers and closers were impressive than the starter as they did not allow any run in their combined four innings. Left-handed closer Dan Runzler, struck-out one and Guillermo Mota did not even allow any hit.
The Giants’ hopes were on first baseman Aubrey Huff who was nominated as one of the hottest player of the club. Huff, having .380 in 13 contests, launched safe hits in each of his last six games. Huff as a whole has had a splendid exhibition with five home-runs
and 14 RBIs that tied him for first position in the Cactus League. Keeping his performance in view, team management sent him for three at-bats but he could not even touch the baseball.
Jack Hannahan led off the Indians in the third inning when Carlos Santana reaches on a forced attempt due to a fielding error by third baseman Mark DeRosa. The Indians earned a three runs lead in the third inning that was changed to 7-0 in the seventh inning
when Luke Carlin posted a two-run homer to the Giants’ reliever Ramon Ramirez, who permitted three runs on two hits over one inning. Ramirez did not make any batter leave the ground with a strike-out.
Indians’ starter David Huff, making his second start in his sixth appearance, outclassed opponents with five strong innings. The 26-year-old, vying for a rotation spot, allowed just three scoreless hits with two strike-outs and walked just one. Gomez fully
assisted Huff in four innings with six strike-outs allowing just three hits one of which went for homer of Miguel Tejada’s bat in the seventh inning.
Cleveland will travel to Maryvale Arizona to take on rivals the Milwaukee Brewers. Mitch Talbot has been prepared to strike-out the Brewers’ batters. The Indians are looking forward to posting a record wining seventh straight victory in this spring. During
their six game winning streak the Indians have outscored their opponents 49-27. Only time will tell if the Indians will be able to carry their momentum into the regular season.
