Cleveland Indians hammer Los Angeles Angels 4-0 – Major League Recap
The Cleveland Indians won their three-game regular series 2-1 in 2012 Major League Baseball season against the Los Angeles Angels by winning the decisive game 4-0 on Sunday, April 29 at Progressive Field in Cleveland, Ohio.
Starting pitcher Derek Lowe played a key role for his team’s win as he pitched brilliantly throughout the game. His three deliveries into second last innings played decisive for the Indians.
“I've never played the outfield, but I probably would do that myself," said Lowe with confidence.
“Lowe was outstanding," Cleveland Indians Manny Acta said for Lowe’s brilliant contribution. "He had command of that sinker and also a good slider. Any time you can take two of three from that pitching staff is great. Our pitchers matched up great against them. The mighty sun was on our side today.”
The Tribe’s good luck continues as they scored three runs on Angels’ errors. The bigger part in humiliation played by the Angels nine-time Gold Glove outfielder Torii Hunter, who made two errors on which the two-runs further added into the Tribe’s final winning score 4-0.
"I lost that game. I feel bad," said Hunter. "I can't explain it. I've been playing this game for a long time. It seems like the sun wins."
Though Hunter has accepted his poor play against the Indians, but he is still considered one of the best record holders in outfield for fewest errors in history of MLB with almost (4500) while that particular error was his 36th out-of 4525 opportunities.
With this win, not only the Angels have lost the series from the Indians 2-1, but they have also given an advantage to the Tribe to take the lead in American League Central.
The overall game was played with much aggression from both sides, but Lowe’s pitching proved the real difference in the Indians’ win.
Lowe with 4-1 record retired 12 batters on groundout sending constantly Angels’ batters to dugout. The bigger humiliation came from Albert Pujols, who once again disappointed the Angels management by not performing up-to the expected level. He was grounded out three times and remained homerless in 117 at bats.
