Cleveland Indians hammer Seattle Mariners 9-3 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians hammered the Seattle Mariners 9-3 with their batting prowess in the first game of their two-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, May 16 at Progressive Field, Cleveland in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
Starter Ubaldo Jimenez pitched brilliantly and proved the key factor for the Indians win against the all set Mariners who were coming in this game with a brilliant track record against the division leaders.
Jimenez said after the game with huge confidence, "I was able to attack the strike zone better, It's good to come back from a bad outing. It gives me more confidence. It's all about mechanics, and we've been working on it every single day,”
"This is the best Ubaldo has thrown the ball this year, He did a very good job of getting out of that inning, He was in command the whole time, even after those first two guys got on. He threw 16-of-24 first-pitch strikes and looked relaxed." manager Manny Acta said of Jimenez and his brilliant outing .
On the other hand, the Indians opposing starter Felix Hernandez was hammered by the Tribe’s offensive batting lineup who hit him eight runs, ten hits, six earned runs.
"Felix just had an off day, He's human. I think sometimes we forget about that." Mariners’ manager Eric Wedge said of Felix.
The Indians, from start of the game, went ahead with three runs. Though the Mariners came back and reduced the lead making two more runs in the third innings, but the Indians proved more restrained and again opened up the four five run lead into the bottom fourth.
The Mariners batting line up tried their best to reduce the gap further, but the Indians seemed in control as they made another run in the sixth and eventually won the game in the end.
With this win, the Indians now sitting at top with 21-16 win loss record in the American League Central division.
On the other hand, the Mariners are already at bottom in their National League West division and this loss has given them another hammering and decreased their winning percentage to .410.
