Cleveland Indians hammered by Cincinnati Reds 3-5 – MLB Update
The Cleveland Indians hammered by the Cincinnati Reds 3-5 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, June 13 at Great American Ball Park in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
The Reds not only beaten the Indians’ in this particular game, but they also won the series as well.
Second baseman Brandon Phillips helped his team to secure a series at very crucial stage of the competition. The Reds, who needed this win to remain at top in the National League Central, played exceptionally and smoothly surpass the Indians offence.
Phillips however, played with big energy and contributed with tremendous batting when he hit a two-run homer in the bottom seventh.
"To tell you the truth, man, I don't know why," Phillips said. "I just go out there and try to get the job done."
"You've got to use every edge you can," manager Dusty Baker said. "I told him we're playing the Indians. He just kind of smiled."
Starter Derek Lowe could not show his natural game and gave too much waivered deliveries which cost the Indians in big way as they ousted comprehensively by the Reds offence.
"Three years, I've always come up with men on base, This is the first time I came up with no one on base. Dusty, I was pointing at him because I knew why it happened, and he shook his finger like he had nothing to do with it." Lowe said after the game on
his poor outing which cost the Indians a big defeat.
Though the Indians are leading the interleague series but with these kinds of defeats from average teams could give them some hard time to retain as the interleague leaders.
In the meanwhile, currently they are playing well in the American League Central Division with 32-29 win loss record along with .525 winning percentage and their post season qualification chances are also high.
The Reds on the other hand, are also not very behind from the post season qualification. They are holding the top position in the National League Central with 34-27 win-loss record along with .557 winning percentage.
