Cleveland Indians hammered by Detroit Tigers 1-7 – MLB Recap
Cleveland Indians lost to the Detroit Tigers 1-7 in the third and last game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, September 5 at Comerica Park.
"When everybody else knows the importance of it, obviously the players, the manager and the coaches know the importance of it, The fans know. I'm sure they'll be watching, and there will be some late nights for them, maybe when we're in Anaheim. Then off to Chicago. Yeah, I don't think you can downplay it," Tigers' manager Jim Leyland said on his team’s performance.
Indians' offence performed poorly and lost the game with bitter humiliation. Their pitchers most importantly were the key to retain the pressure but they received a heavy hammering and could not save the game against the Tigers.
"We played a good series, and not just because we won it, I'm happy because of the way we pitched,” Cleveland manager Manny Acta said in detail.
Starter Ubaldo Jimenez pitched 7.1 innings and received six hits and four runs on his 5.58 ERA. He struck-out only three and got hammered with a home-run.
He looked tired on the mound and could not play his natural aggressive game which eventually proved disastrous for the Indians.
Relief pitcher Cody Allen also performed poorly and lost the game for the Tribe.
He pitched 0.2 innings and received three runs and four hits along with one homer. He could not strike-out any as his ERA remained at 2.95.
On the other hand, the Tigers' entire roster played very well and earned a great victory. They played as one unit that rattled the Indians with big force.
"Our fate's in our own hands, We control our own destiny, we just have to take care of what we do," Detroit right-hander Doug Fister said.
Starting pitcher Doug Fister did well on the mound as he pitched seven innings and allowed one run on four hits. He struck-out six while his ERA also remained consistent at 3.54.
Joaquin Benoit did well in his one inning’s spell as he did not receive any run or hit while his ERA also remained consistent at 3.00.
