Cleveland Indians hammered by Detroit Tigers 3-5 – MLB Recap
Cleveland Indians were hammered by the Detroit Tigers 3-5 in the second game of their three-match regular series encounter on Saturday, September 15 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
Tigers outplayed the Indians with great energy and won in style. They certainly dominated the Indians’ pitchers and kept them under pressure during the entire game.
"We didn't see it right off the bat, One of our coaches went down to watch a video we found out through that. The pitching change gave us time to appeal the play," manager Manny Acta said.
Starting pitcher Justin Masterson pitched 4.2 innings and received four runs and six hits. He struck-out eight but his ERA rose to 4.94.
Masterson pitched way-ward and was hammered with big hits. He could have played much better but the Tigers’ batters were superior who rattled their opponents with big energy.
Relief pitcher Tony Sipp pitched 1.2 innings and received one run and two hits. He could not even strike-out any batter while his ERA also rose to 4.59.
Closer Cody Allen also played poorly and lost the game for the Indians. He pitched 1.2 innings while his ERA rose to 2.96.
On the other hand, the Tigers' entire roster played tremendously and earned a great victory.
"It is what it is, We're still playing for pretty big stakes, just as they are. You can't get sentimental, well maybe if you've got a 15-run lead. He was throwing great, got two quick outs in the seventh, then they got a couple runs," Tigers' manager Jim Leyland said.
Starter Anibal Sanchez pitched 6.2 innings and allowed two runs and three hits. He struck-out seven while his ERA also remained consistent at 4.19.
"I thought I would do it, I was trying to be aggressive, not be afraid and all my pitches were working," Sanchez said.
Relief pitcher Phil Coke also showed resilience and did not allow any run or hit. He pitched 0.1 innings and maintained his 3.62 ERA.
Closer Joaquin Benoit pitched one inning spell and received one run and two hits. He also struck-out one while his ERA remained consistent at 3.39.
