Cleveland Indians humiliate Los Angeles Angels 12-3 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians humiliated the Los Angeles Angels 12-3 in the third and final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, July 4 at Progressive Field.
Stretching a 12 run lead into the sixth, the Indians on the other end, held the Angels with enormous power and managed to win.
Starter Derek Lowe performed tremendously as he tossed six innings and received three runs on 11 hits. He gave only three earned runs as his ERA remained consistent at 4.43.
"It's great to see the guys get a lot of runs, then it's up to me not to walk guys and give it back." Lowe said.
Left-fielder Johnny Damon proved to be one of the winning factors for the Indians as he made two runs on three hits as his slugging percentage remained consistent at .340.
"Brantley got a good pitch to hit, Certain players (Hafner) make others around them better." Damon said.
“We had a lot of quality at-bats and you could see Hafner's effect right away, He just wore out Santana and then Brantley hit that homer. That was huge, Guys with that power sinker are always one pitch away from doing that, getting the ground ball. He made
18 first-pitch strikes and knows how to pitch with a lead," Indians’ manager Manny Acta said.
Michael Brantley and Casey Kotchman also played wonderfully and scored four runs together. Each of them also made three RBIs and earned a great victory for the Indians.
Brantley was more aggressive as his three run homer certainly pushed the Angels on the back-foot as from there onwards the Indians played as one unit with enormous power and never gave any chance to their opponents to take control of the game. They kept
their nine run lead and eventually won the game in style.
Angels’ starter Ervin Santana did not play well and received a total of eight runs on six hits along with eight earned runs. He was also smashed for a three-run homer while his ERA rose to 5.75.
Not only did Santana spoil the game for the Angels but closer Jason Isringhausen also proved disastrous. In his one inning of play, he gave three runs, five hits and three earned runs while his ERA rose to 3.41.
