Cleveland Indians humiliated by Texas Rangers 2-5 – MLB Update
Cleveland Indians were crushed by the Texas Rangers 2-5 at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas on Wednesday, September 12 in the second game of their three match series.
Rangers looked to attack their American League opponent right from the start of the contest. Josh Hamilton continued his excellent hitting form as he grounded into fielder’s choice to second in the first inning to put Texas on the board.
Adrian Beltre homered to left centre for two runs in the first inning and Hamilton smacked a home-run to right in the third as Rangers took a handsome 4-0 lead. Catcher Geovany Soto also made his presence felt with a sacrifice fly hit to left in the fourth
inning.
For the Indians, first baseman Casey Kotchman grounded into fielder’s choice to shortstop in the fourth and Carlos Santana hit a sacrifice fly to centre in the fifth. However, the Rangers had no trouble in holding on to their three run lead to wrap up an
impressive series victory.
Indians’ starting pitcher Jeanmar Gomez looked completely out of sorts as he gave up six hits and five runs in just four innings to take his eighth loss of the season. Relief pitchers Chris Perez and David Huff combined to pitch three plus scoreless innings
but their effort went in vain.
"[Gomez] didn't have good stuff and couldn't locate his pitches," Cleveland manager Manny Acta said at the end of the contest. "They took advantage of it."
"Hopefully, things won't last long with those guys," Washington said. "But we certainly can't stop the season, so we're going to play with what we've got and we're going to expect to win."
"I just try to do my job the same way, try to execute and make as many pitches as possible," Rangers’ starter Ryan Dempster said in a post game interview.
Rangers secured a comfortable 6-4 win in the series opener and they continued to impress the critics with a sensational 5-2 win in Game 2. With their win, the Rangers also improved their record to 85-57 to consolidate their position at the top of the American
League West Division standings table.
The Indians will definitely be disappointed with their poor performance and will be hoping for a better show in their next series.
