Cleveland Indians likely to name Scott Radinsky and Tom Wiedenbauer to coaching staff - MLB News
The Cleveland Indians are likely to hire Scott Radinsky and Tom Wiedenbauer to their coaching staff. The team are looking to possibly add both Radinsky and Wiedenbauer to the coaching staff.
Radinsky, who is currently coaching as bullpen coach, will be replacing pitching coach Tim Belcher and Wiedenbauer is expected to be promoted from the Minor League field coordinator to first-base coach.
Though, no official statement from the Indians’ management has come out in the media, but these two new hiring are expected to be announced in the next couple of days.
To fill Radinsky and Wiedenbauer’s previous jobs, pitching coach at Class AAA Columbus Ruben Niebela and Minor League pitching coordinator Dave Miller are highly favoured candidates for the position.
After the resignation of Tim Belcher and Tim Tolman, Radinsky and Wiedenbauer were favourites to replace them. However, as soon as Belcher and Tolman resigned from their respective jobs, the Indians’ management started to rebuild their coaching staff for
the next season.
On Wednesday, the Indians’ general manager Chris Antonetti also explained in detail regarding completing their Major League coaching staff for the next season. He said, “We continue to work through completing our Major League coaching staff; we’ve made progress
over the last couple weeks, and are hopeful that we'll have that process completed in the next few days.”
Both these potential new hiring have relatively good experience in the MLB. Radinsky has spent almost eight years in the Indians’ franchise so far whereas Wiedenbauer was appointed last year as Minor League field coordinator to first-base coach.
Working as bullpen coach with the Indians for the past two years, Radinsky showed some very good coaching skills. He helped Cleveland’s pitchers and relievers with his extraordinary skills. In the regular season of 2010-11, Radinsky helped the Indians relievers
achieve 27-21 with a 3.71 earned run average (ERA) and total 38 saves.
Before becoming the bullpen coach in 2009, Radinsky has also worked with the Cleveland Indians Player Development System and for their Triple-A affiliates in Buffalo and Columbus as pitching coach.
Tom Wiedenbauer also has vast technical experience in Major League Baseball as a player, coach and manager. Before joining the Cleveland Indians last year as coordinator first base coach, the former star out-fielder and pitcher from Houston Astros has played
and worked with the Astros for almost 35-years.
It will be interesting to see what impact these two new candidates can bring to the Indians’ coaching staff. Both Scott Radinsky and Tom Wiedenbauer will be looking to put in a decent effort to improve the Indians’ team for the regular
season.
