Cleveland Indians look aggressive on making offseason moves – MLB Update
After a decent 2012 Major League Baseball season, the Cleveland Indians have now turned their total attention towards rebuilding its team for the next big season. Overall their track record was quite consistent in the last Major League campaign in which
they won 68 games with .420 winning percentage.
Though the Indians’ management later fired their manager and hired new one but still it was an unnecessary move. Many critics say that the Indians’ performance was not that poor as they brought another manager over Manny Acta for the next season instead
they should have given him more confidence for a more result oriented season in 2013.
However, after the inclusion of a new manager Terry Francona, the Indians are showing more assurances on bringing some more vitals individuals who will probably give the existing roster added confidence in order to achieve consistent results.
In the recent 2012 Major League Baseball’s annual Winter Meetings in Nashville, the Indians also surprised many when they offered outfielder Shane Victorino a four-year worth $44 million contract. Though he did not agree to the Indians offer and signed with
the Boston Red Sox but still it was a huge step forward that Cleveland now fancies some of the talented players to add.
"We knew they liked Shane, so I wasn't totally shocked, But based on their past history, the offer was a surprise. Chris Antonetti has always been good to deal with. It wasn't that Shane didn't like Cleveland. He could have played in either city and been
happy. But he liked the allure of playing for the Red Sox," said John Boggs, Victorino's agent.
“Shane connected with Tito and I talked to his agent, Then we moved on to the next guy. Comparatively, I don't know how it stacks up to winters past, but we have some flexibility to improve the team," said Antonetti, describing the aftermath.
On the other hand, though the Indians could not bring Victorino to a four year deal, but now they have turned their attention to sign some talented free agents within next few months potentially before the 2013 Spring Training.
