Cleveland Indians lose to Baltimore Orioles 1-3 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians lost to the Baltimore Orioles 1-3 in the second game of their four-match regular series encounter on Saturday, July 21 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
Designated hitter Jim Thome played brilliantly for the Orioles as he hit a two-run homer in the bottom seventh and earned a great victory for his team.
"There's a lot memories, I've had great memories on that side and then coming in here as an opponent against them. Any time you come home, they say, it's very special. It's even more special to get the W's. That's, I think, the main thing. The bottom line is I played here a long time," Thome said with confidence as he explained his brilliant play.
Later, Orioles' manager Buck Showalter commented on Thome's brilliant play and said, "He actually does a lot of things other than swing a bat and hit a ball where they can't catch it, He just impacts a team so many ways. He walks through the door every day with a smile on his face.”
Along with Thome, short-stop J.J. Hardy also contributed with his one run on one hit as his slugging percentage also remained consistent at .368.
Not only hitters, the Orioles' pitchers also played well and never gave any loop-holes to their opponents.
Chris Tillman pitched 6.2 innings and received one run along with a homer. He received six hits and struck-out four as his ERA remained consistent at 1.15.
On the other hand, the Indians’ pitchers did not play well and received bitter hammering from the Orioles’ hitters.
Starter Zach McAllister pitched 7.2 innings and gave three runs on five hits. He also gave three earned runs as his ERA rose to 3.21.
Closer Tony Sipp on the other hand, played well for the Indians but still he could not do much to save the game. He received only one hit and maintained his composure on the mound.
However, as the Baltimore Orioles showed more determination during the entire game, the Indians just could not match their brilliance and lost in the end.
