Cleveland Indians lose to Baltimore Orioles 2-10 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians lost to the Baltimore Orioles 2-10 in the first game of their four-match regular series encounter on Friday, July 20 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
Indians’ played poorly from start of the game and lost in the end. They never showed any fighting spirit and could not match the Orioles’ brilliance. This was the Indians second straight defeat after they levelled the series 2-2 with the Tampa Bay Rays.
On the other hand, it was the third consecutive victory for the Orioles who are looking certainly powerful in the second half of the season with some big wins in hand.
In Friday’s game, the Orioles played combined and never showed any loop-holes in their game. Instead they kept the Indians under pressure throughout the game which eventually proved wonderful in the end in the shape of a good win.
The entire Orioles' roster played well and earned a great victory for their team.
Not only batters who scored ten runs, but the pitchers also performed well as they did not allow the Tribe’s men to score freely.
Starter Miguel Gonzalez pitched well for the Orioles as he tossed 6.2 innings and received two runs and two earned runs only along with two homers. He received seven hits while he struck-out five on his 2.61 ERA.
Relief pitcher Matt Lindstrom and closer Kevin Gregg also performed well for the Orioles and never allowed any further run.
Orioles' manager Buck Showalter commented on Gonzalez's pitching and said, “When you come from where Miguel has come from to get on the page, he's not going to assume or take anything for granted. He's going to take advantage of every opportunity. He's not gonna all of a sudden start pumping fastballs down the middle."
Designated hitter Jim Thome also played well for the Orioles as he scored two runs on his three hits.
Designated hitter Jim Thome said, "We were fortunate that we scored some runs, Lowe can be a guy that I think you have to do that on. Once he gets settled in, he can be very good. He's got good stuff, and we were fortunate that we got some pitches to hit and capitalized on it."
He also added a single RBI in the Orioles win while his slugging percentage also remained consistent at .404.
