Cleveland Indians lose to Baltimore Orioles 3-4 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians lost to Baltimore Orioles 3-4 in the third game of their four-match regular series encounter on Sunday, July 22 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
Indians’ did not play well and lost in the end with a one run deficit. Their entire roster played poor and never showed any fighting spirit during the entire game.
From their batting line-up to starting pitchers, no one looked confident at their home field and could not save the game from the Orioles.
“We continue to struggle offensively, sun is going to come up tomorrow, We still have over 60 games to go. Things can change in a heartbeat. Every day is a new day," Indians’ manager Manny Acta said.
The Orioles on the other hand, played wonderfully and earned a great victory against the well settled Indians.
Their batting line-up showed some heavy hits while Orioles’ pitchers also proved their thrust. Their batters on one end kept the score-board ticking while the pitchers kept the pressure on the Indians’ hitters and did not give any extra loop-holes to them to play their fast sliders.
Overall the game was played on rapid pace but still the Orioles were better in all areas of play which proved one of the winning factors of their well balanced victory.
Orioles’ manager Buck Showalter said of Ayala who pitched well for his team, "Luis pitched really well, he just ran out of gas, We had our work cut out for us that inning against some good hitters."
Closer Jim Johnson also played wonderfully for Orioles as he saved the game in his 0.2 inning’s spell. He came after relief pitcher Ayala and remained calm on the mound.
Johnson said, "That wasn't the way we drew it up, I really was just trying to find a way to get out of it. I didn't have a matchup I liked, I pitched around Choo and knew I still had a base open if I needed.”
He looked sharp as he received only one run on two hits. He gave one earned run and struck-out one Indians hitter as well while his ERA stayed consistent at 2.55.
