Cleveland Indians lose to Boston Red Sox 5-7 – MLB News
The Cleveland Indians lost to Boston Red Sox 5-7 in the second game of their four-match regular series encounter on Friday, May 11, at Fenway Park, Boston in 2012 Major League Baseball season.
With this win the Red Sox have now right back the contest with 1-1 overall record and still two games to go. In last outing, the Indians outclassed the Red Sox with 8-3.
Boston pitcher Clay Buchholz pitched tremendously and showed no loop holes during the entire game.
He stayed on the mound for 6.1 innings and received only eight hits along with four runs and three earned runs.
Red Sox manager Bobby Valentine later told the media about Clay’s spirited performance. He said, "I just wanted Clay to understand that I believed in him and everyone behind him thought he was a good pitcher. Prove it to the guys in front of him. Now he can look at his record of four wins and say that he's really building on something. He's coming off a good outing the next time he goes out there."
The game was overall played on high pace with each team scoring early in the first inning. Later, from second inning onwards, the Red Sox started their offensive run and put the Indians in extreme pressure with seven runs’ deficit into bottom of fifth inning while eventually took the game away in style.
Though the Indians also tried their best to come back, but the Red Sox defence was too good for them.
"I think our opportunities were early in the game, but then after that, he got into a very good groove and he moved his fastball in and out and used that changeup of his. It's a very good pitch," Indians manager Manny Acta said for his team poor effort.
The recent win now puts the Red Sox close to one place ahead in the American League East to Toronto Blue Jays’ with the winning percentage of .406.
While the Indians still leading in American League Central with the winning percentage of .563 along with 8-10 win loss record.
