Cleveland Indians lose to Seattle Mariners 1-3 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians lost to Seattle Mariners 1-3 in the final game of their three-match regular series encounter on Wednesday, August 22 at Safeco Field in Seattle.
Indians’ played poor during the entire game and were defeated by the Mariners with a two-run deficit.
Their entire roster looked tired in the field as they did not show any fighting spirit against the Mariners’ top offence.
"It's never been done in the history of the game where 25 guys are released, They should relax. If one guy is going to go, it's going to be me, not them," Cleveland manager Manny Acta said.
On the other hand, the Mariners' hitters and pitchers played aggressively and edged past the Indians with ease.
"It only takes one swing, one play to be a hero, Everybody is doing their part, it's not just the same guy or same group of guys; we've got everybody contributing," Seattle manager Eric Wedge said.
Starting pitcher Hisashi Iwakuma pitched 5.2 innings and proved that he was better than all the Indians' pitchers.
He allowed only one run and six hits. He struck-out five while he remained calm on the mound at his 3.64 ERA.
Relief pitcher Oliver Perez also did well on the mound in his one innings spell as he only received one hit.
He struck-out two and never let the Indians’ hitters to play him easy. He pushed the Indians hard and won the game for the Mariners. No Indians’ hitter was able to hit him freely on his consistent 1.83 ERA.
Later closer Carter Capps pitched 0.2 innings for the Mariners and allowed only one hit as he maintained his ERA at 3.86.
Meanwhile, the Indians' pitchers did not show any fighting spirit and lost in the end. They were hammered with big hits and did not play their natural game.
"The ball got there a little bit before and he put the tag down, (I) felt like if I tried to alter the slide and get my left hand around there, that would be my best chance," Seager said.
Closer Vinnie Pestano was certainly a losing factor for the Indians as he allowed two runs and two hits on his 1.83 ERA.
