Cleveland Indians lose to Tampa Bay Rays 6-7 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians lost to Tampa Bay Rays 6-7 in the fourth and final game of their four-match regular series encounter on Sunday, July 8 at Progressive Field.
Tribe’s men played poorly and lost the game with a one run deficit. Rays’ on the other hand, scored some quick runs in the sixth and ninth to oust their opponents with style.
Right-fielder Ben Zobrist played tremendously as his go-ahead run in the ninth proved one of the winning factors for the Rays.
"The hits were coming so fast, I didn't have time to think, Hitting was so contagious at that point, he threw a pitch and I swung." Zobrist said later in the game regarding his performance which gave the Rays a good win in the end.
This is also a good sign for the Rays’ as they won this last game of their four-match series. Levelling the series 2-2, the Rays’ certainly finished their half season campaign on a high note.
"That was some win," Rays' manager Joe Maddon said. "It was Rhymes' first home run since 1837, and Carlos has hit probably two balls that way all year."
Not only the batters, the Rays’ entire pitching rotation played well and earned a great victory for their team.
Rays’ starter James Shields pitched seven innings and received five runs on 10 hits. He gave four earned runs along with one homer and struck-out five hitters while his ERA remained at 4.17.
Relief pitcher Joel Peralta stayed on the mound for one inning as he received one run, one hit, one earned run and a homer. He struck-out one while his ERA remained at 4.81.
Closer Fernando Rodney also did well on the mound as he tossed one inning and finished scoreless with only two hits while his ERA stayed at 0.93.
On the other hand, the Indians’ despite getting helping hand from their batting line-up could not win the game as their pitchers gave too many way-ward deliveries and lost in the end.
Zach McAllister started the game for the Indians and tossed 5.2 innings in which he gave four runs and four hits. He struck-out eight and his ERA rose to 3.40 which literally proved disastrous for Cleveland in their 6-7 defeat.
