Cleveland Indians narrowly surpass Detroit Tigers 3-2 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians defeated the Detroit Tigers in a close encounter of their first game of three match regular series matchup on Tuesday, July 24 at Progressive Field in Cleveland.
The Tribe’s med looked sharp in the field and kept the Tigers guessing their down the stretch strategy which proved wonderful in the end.
Though at one point the game was levelled with 2-2 but the Indians were able to produce a single in the bottom of the seventh and eventually won the game.
Indians' manager Manny Acta said after the game explained about his team’s different winning aspects in detail, "If we take the lead, our chances are very good of winning with Pestano and Perez, Aaron executed very well, didn't give it away. Then Pestano and Perez took care of business. Ubaldo pitched a heck of a six innings, And he had to pitch. In five of the six innings, the leadoff hitter reached."
This was a good sign for the Indians as they recently suffered four straight defeats from the Baltimore Orioles in their second half four-game regular series encounter.
While the Tigers’ situation was quite opposite to the Indians as they were enjoying the five-game winning streak before the Tribe’s men ended their joy with a one run advantage.
Indians, despite winning narrowly proved their valour and managed to put in a good performance. They played as one unit and never allowed the Tigers to take control of the game at any point.
The Tigers on the other hand, played slow from start of the game and eventually lost in the end. They did not play their natural aggressive game and fell short in end by narrow margin.
Tigers’ manager Jim Leyland, "It was a great call by Manny, That was the run that beat us. We were certainly aware of it. That's why I had Alex looking over in case I wanted to pitch out, but I didn't do it early enough."
Indians’ starter Ubaldo Jimenez played well for his team and did not allowed any run in his six innings spell. He also struck-out four potential Tigers’ batters on his 4.97 ERA.
