Cleveland Indians’ offseason moves – MLB Special
As soon as the 2011 World Series was concluded in favour of the St. Louis Cardinals, the MLB offseason started with full swing of excitement in order to sign and trade players with the best interest for every particular team involved.
Where many teams having strong financial backup anxious to purchase new players from 2011 free agent market, the Cleveland Indians played their cards wisely and did not hurry for any particular player with a very careful attitude of spending less as they
are already facing some tough financial times.
The Indians’ offseason moves for signing and trading were intelligently crafted by their top management, who always knew that what possible way forward to overcome last season’s disappointing performance when they were ejected early in the 2011 competition.
The Indians’ management knew from the very beginning that they do not posses any extra cash to spend on the offseason shopping instead they held their calm and waited for the right moment to come.
First, the management faced a problem where two players of their roster Fausto Carmona and Grady Sizemore were about to become free agents as their previous contracts expired as the season ended. The Indians, however, immediately jumped for maintaining a
positive vibe among the other team-mates, they exercised team options on Carmona and later re-signed Sizemore to a deal worth $7 million.
These two moves remained the focal point until the Indians cleared the situation giving both players another chance to show their skills on the field.
However, one major acquisition of Derek Lowe from the Atlanta Hawks is still the main subject for many baseball experts. Many say that his game has not yet matured while some say that his game will further improve in the Indians franchise despite currently
struggling to cope with inconsistence performance as he must be given a chance before any criticism.
With Lowe’s arrival and Carlos Carrasco’s battle with Tommy John surgery, who is still not recovered, the Indians on the whole can be tough for their opponents in the next season.
Especially, Carrasco’s injury is somewhat a backup in the face of Lowe, who is pretty excited to join the Indians’ spring training session in the next few months.
The Cleveland Indians are also active doing every positive thing for their top executives. Recently, they have picked options on manager Manny Acta and made sure that he will remain in charge until 2013.
This act of showing great confidence on their slicker was applauded by many, who later said that the level of performance of the Indians roster next season will certainly impress many.
Even Acta himself came out in the media and commented with cheer joy.
He said, “I'm very happy that I know I will be here for at least two years, this is a place I want to be. I made the decision based on some facts, and over the last two years they have been confirmed, that was based on our farm system, our young players
who are making an impact at the big league level and our chances of being competitive and eventually winning. I've seen it in two years.”
With all these offseason moves, the Cleveland Indians are hoping for the best and their fans are also rating the Indians high for the next season.
