Cleveland Indians outperformed by Kansas City Royals 3-8 – MLB Recap
The Cleveland Indians lost to the Kansas City Royals in their first game of their three-match regular series encounter on Tuesday, July 31 at Kauffman Stadium in Kansas City.
With this win, the Royals ended their five-game losing skid as well and now looking forward into the potential post season qualification.
Royals attacked early and took control of the game with great energy while later they just played their natural game and won in the end with much ease and authority.
"That's key. We haven't been able to put together successions of hits like that where we can tack on some runs and get a big inning and get a big lead, which also helps Hochevar to take a little bit of a breather, understanding that he has some room to make some mistakes, some wiggle room if you will, It was a big inning for us," said manager Ned Yost on his team’s combine play.
Royals’ starter Luke Hochevar played well and helped his team to win against the Indians.
He pitched six innings and allowed three runs, seven hits and three earned runs on 5.22 ERA. He also struck-out six batters of Indians and remained his calm on the mound with positive energy.
“Anytime you throw up eight runs is always nice, We still kept playing hard, though, which is good to see. We kept playing good defense and kept going out there battling at the plate,” Hochevar said and explained in detail on his perfect outing.
On the other hand, the Indians’ starting pitcher Derek Lowe certainly lost the game for his team. He looked exhausted on the mound as he allowed seven runs and eight hits. He also received seven earned runs in his 2.1 innings.
Lowe was only able to strike-out one Royals’ hitters on his 5.52 ERA.
Along with him, the Indians relief pitcher Josh Tomlin was also hammered with big hits. He allowed one run on three blistering hits while he also gave one earned run in his 2.2 innings. He could not even strike-out any batter while his ERA rose to 5.81.
